What is the ‘Date Last Insured’?
Based on the individuals work history and when they paid in social security, they will determine the last date insured. If a client comes to us and they were last insured in 2014, in order for them to be found disabled they will have to prove that the disability began before 2014. If the date last insured is a year after your last day of work, you will not be entitled to social security. The date last insured is the most critical date in a social security case. Some people think that since they have paid into social security since they were 16 they are entitled to disability benefits but they do not get those. They will get the retirement benefits.
