In June 2024, Social Security published the primary diagnosis of males who have been found disabled in the year 2024. For men and boys who were found disabled under the age of 30, the primary disabling diagnosis in 2024 was mental disorders, which accounted for nearly 40% of the primary diagnoses. Nervous system disorders and neoplasms also each accounted for about 15% of the primary diagnoses for men and boys under 30. Musculoskeletal disorders only accounted for less than 5% of the primary diagnoses for men and boys under the age of 30.
Not surprisingly, men who found disabled when they were 50 to 59 years old showed a very different array of disabling conditions. Approximately 25% of men ages 50 to 59 who were found disabled in 2024 had a musculoskeletal disorder as their primary cause of disability. Neoplasms accounted for about 20% of primary disabling conditions and circulatory conditions for about 15% of primary disabling conditions for men ages 50-59.
